Another powerful collaboration has happened between Reebok and Kendrick Lamar with the release of a second sneaker. The first collab brought about the Reebok Classic x Kendrick Lamar Ventilator in 2015. This week, we’re getting the Kendrick Lamar Classic Leather, showcasing Lamar’s personal take on the timeless Reebok Classic Leather silhouette. The Reebok Classic Leather is a timeless, dual gender silhouette that tells an authentic heritage story. This year, Kendrick Lamar has put his own spin on the iconic model by adding personal touches to the design and bringing to life his message of inspiring peace and unity in the streets.
Both sneakers draw inspiration from the Compton-born rapper’s roots. The message is unity, and the goal is to spread positivity by uniting two major gangs, the Bloods and the Crips, in the sneaker’s design. The neutral colorway is contrasted with minimal hits of blue and red on the sock liners as well as embroidered tongue labels to continue the neutrality theme that’s central to Lamar’s message. Suede covers the entire upper and BLUE is debossed on the heel of the left shoe, while RED can be seen on the right. Details like a gum outsole and woven rope laces take this retro shoe to another fashionable level. A secondary set of waxed tonal grey laces with this limited edition launch. Shiekh Shoes is hoping to have inventory of the shoes on Monday (1/18) or Tuesday (1/19). Follow us on Instagram for updates on how to cop yourself a pair!
Lamar and Reebok also unveiled a new promo video titled, Project Hero, featuring Top Dawg Entertainment member, Jay Rock and West Coast veteran, Glasses Malone. The video emphasizes the power of music as tool to connect one another to battle the cycle of gang violence which has plagued the community these artists grew up in.
Last week Kendrick wore the new kicks for his performance of “Untitled 2” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
