Buy Macbook Pro 2015 15 Inch

Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

First check to see which 15-inch MacBook Pro you have. Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu () in the upper-left corner of your screen. Confirm your model is "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)." If you have that model, enter your computer's serial number below to see if it is eligible for this program.

Editor's Note (December 2017): Though it's over two years old, the 2015 MacBook Pro 15-inch is still for sale and still recommended for anyone who wants the best keyboard and ports on an Apple laptop. See our fresh take on this 15-inch MacBook Pro and our comparison versus newer MacBooks Pros.

Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display returns for 2015, this time with the power of the Force. This refreshed MacBook sports the company's innovative Force Touch trackpad, which can perform a host of pressure-sensitive commands. It also packs an optional AMD Radeon R9 R9 M370X GPU, which Apple says can deliver up to 80 times the graphics performance as last year's model.

Second verse, same as the first: The latest 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is identical in design to last year's model, packing the same slim aluminum chassis and black-bordered display that have defined Apple's highest-end notebook for years.

Measuring 14.13 x 9.73 x 0.71 inches and weighing 4.49 pounds, the MacBook Pro is pleasingly skinny and fairly easy to carry. Dell's latest XPS 15 (14.6 x 10 x 0.70.3 inches, 4.6 pounds) is just a bit heavier and taller than the Pro, while workstations such as the MSI WS60 (15.4 x 10.5 x 0.78 inches, 4.36 pounds) and HP ZBook 15u (14.8 x 10 x 0.84 inches, 4.23 pounds) are slightly lighter but have bigger footprints than Apple's notebook.

There's a reason "Retina Display" is part of the MacBook Pro's full name. The laptop's gorgeous 15.4-inch, 2880 x 1800 screen impresses the second you pop it open, with app icons and images that burst with color, and text that practically looks handwritten.

The 2015 MacBook Pro with Retina's biggest addition is its Force Touch trackpad, which is also featured on both the new 12-inch MacBook and the latest 13-inch Retina Pro. This new 4 x 3-inch trackpad doesn't actually physically click, instead using force sensors and haptic feedback to simulate the sensation.

The MacBook Pro with Retina sports two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot and two Thunderbolt 2 ports, the latter of which allow you to perform superfast file transfers and connect to high-resolution external displays. Despite borrowing the 12-inch MacBook's Force Touch pad, the new Pro lacks that model's USB Type-C connection.

Packing an AMD Radeon R9 M370X GPU, the newest 15-inch MacBook Pro is designed to deliver 80 times the graphics performance as last year's model. A lower-cost configuration with integrated Intel Iris Pro graphics is also available. Our AMD-powered unit certainly doesn't disappoint; 3D titles rendered instantly in Final Cut Pro, allowing me to preview them as soon as I dropped them into a video.

  • The MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.8 15-Inch (Dual Graphics/Force Touch - Mid-2015 Retina Display) originally was only available as a "configure-to-order" configuration of the MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.5 15-Inch (Dual Graphics/Force Touch - Mid-2015 Retina Display), but Apple later added it as a standard option, as well. The MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.8 15-Inch (Dual Graphics/Force Touch - Mid-2015 Retina Display) features a 22 nm "Haswell/Crystalwell" 2.8 GHz Intel "Core i7" processor (4980HQ), with four independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip, a 6 MB shared level 3 cache, 16 GB of onboard 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (which cannot be upgraded later), 512 GB or 1 TB of PCIe-based flash storage, and dual graphics processors -- an AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory and an integrated Intel Iris 5200 Pro graphics processor with 128 MB of "Crystalwell" embedded DRAM (and shared system memory). It also has an integrated 720p FaceTime HD webcam and a high-resolution LED-backlit 15.4" widescreen 2880x1800 (220 ppi) "Retina" display in a case that weighs just less than 4.5 pounds (2.04 kg). It does not have an internal optical drive.Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, two "Thunderbolt 2" ports, an HDMI port, an audio in/out port, and an SDXC card slot.In addition, this model has a backlit keyboard, a new advanced "Force Touch" trackpad, a "MagSafe 2" power adapter, and an internal, sealed battery that provides an Apple estimated 9 hours of battery life.Compared to its predecessor, this model is similar, but it has a faster graphics processor, faster flash storage, a higher capacity battery, and a more advanced "Force Touch" trackpad. Apple has initiated a voluntary recall for their mid-2015 15-inch "Retina" MacBook Pros over a potential safety issue with their integrated batteries. The manufacturer says that some of these batteries can overheat, which poses a safety risk.

Apple claims that a limited number of the 15-inch MacBook Pros sold between September 2015 and February 2017 use a battery that pose potential safety risk as they can overheat. Notably, this is the final generation of "Retina" MacBook Pros, and the issue does not affect either earlier (pre-2015) or the later USB-C models. As part of the program, Apple will replace affected batteries free of charge worldwide.

Meanwhile, typical for Apple, the company has not disclosed how many notebooks may be affected; though that information may show up once they submit a formal statement with the US Consumer Products Safety Commission. And while there is nothing good about an overheating battery, one of the other AnandTech editors did point out there is a silver lining to all of this: affected laptop owners are about to get a free battery replacement for laptops that are now coming up on a few years old, breathing some new life into Apple's final generation of 15-inch laptops with multiple port types and a (proper) set of function keys.

Our aftermarket replacement batteries lead the industry in quality and reliability, so you know you're getting the best money can buy.

When the company held off refreshing the 15-inch model alongside the 13-inch Pro and both MacBook Airs earlier this year, we assumed it was waiting for the oft-delayed quad-core Broadwell processors from Intel. Those were just announced and should begin showing up at retail within the next 30 to 60 days. Assuming they follow the same pattern as the dual-core Broadwell parts, those chips would have provided small CPU and battery life boosts and larger increases to graphics performance.

Benchmark results for the MacBook Pro (15-inch Retina Mid 2015) with an Intel Core i7-4870HQ processor can be found below. The data on this chart is gathered from user-submitted Geekbench 6 results from the Geekbench Browser.

The refresh of Apple's MacBook Pro page early on Thursday eradicated the listing for the 2015 model. Fans of the machine refer to the legacy ports on the machine, including USB-A, as well as the older keyboard, as reasons why they seek out the older machine.

AppleInsider has spoken to several sources at retail regarding the matter. All of our sources have informed us that the 2016 MacBook Pro have outsold the 2015 dramatically, with one person we spoke to telling us that the ratio was 48 of the newer machines to one of the 2015 for the last few months.

We were advised that if a customer wants a new 2015-era MacBook Pro, they should seek them out at retail now, as restocks going forward aren't expected. Refurbished models are likely to remain on Apple's sales portal for some time.

As Apple updated its website with the newest additions to the Macbook Pro family, something just as noteworthy came to light. Apple removed the mid-2015 15-inch Retina Macbook Pro model(Opens in a new tab) from its online store, officially killing off what some consider to be the best laptop ever made.

Before Steve Jobs passed away in 2011, he was involved in the design(Opens in a new tab) of the Retina Macbook Pro line of Apple computers that came out 8 months later in June of 2012. This model was continuously updated and upgraded with the latest specs until May 2015 with the mid-2015 model. This Macbook Pro model was heralded for its sleek design, light weight, fast processing power, its array of ports ranging from HDMI to two Thunderbolt ports, and MagSafe power adapter among other things. Even what the Retina Macbook Pro was missing, an internal CD/DVD Superdrive for example, was a well-timed move in response to where the industry was in terms of the lifecycle of that specific technology. 041b061a72
