These phone systems are often virtual phone system or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone systems (also sometimes called cloud phone systems), which means they are cloud-based and let you make phone calls over an Internet connection.

What is it? Well, a UCaaS solution is basically an office phone system on steroids. It lets you make phone calls from a business phone number, sure, but it also lets you send SMS/MMS messages, do video conferencing, and more.

You can also make changes to call queues or upload new auto attendant greetings right from your online dashboard, also in a few clicks. (Not all phone systems let you do this, so make sure to test these features out in the free trials or demos!)

Try Dialpad for free with a 14-day trial and see how you can make phone calls, have video meetings, and send SMS/MMS + team messages, all from a single app. It takes just a few minutes, and you'll be set up with a virtual phone number too.

The flexibility of the best communications platforms means that these cloud-based systems can benefit a wide range of businesses and industries. As long as your business needs a communication tool to handle internal and external channels like phone calls and messaging, a UCaaS solution just might be a good fit for you.

For the last decade, small businesses across the country have used VoIP phone systems to reduce costs. Old-school landlines are now in sharp decline, with enterprises leveraging internet services and small business VoIP providers to help unify their communications.

But while VoIP saves money and simplifies communication, it has also created new questions for businesses. One of the most common issues small businesses now face is not whether they should switch to VoIP, but if they should buy or lease your VoIP phone hardware.

Although leasing is a great choice, many businesses choose to buy VoIP phone hardware. Purchasing VoIP hardware is often simpler than leasing, and comes with its own array of advantages and disadvantages

Next, we turned to the phone makers themselves. Our research revealed that there are only two major manufacturers of cordless phones: Panasonic and VTech, the latter of which also makes AT&T-branded phones. There are smaller brands, but for support and warranty purposes, we hewed closely to the larger brands.

To figure out which features and specifications were the most important, we gathered a group of Wirecutter staffers who had cordless phones and asked why they used them and what features they found most useful. We combined that feedback with our research to arrive at a list of criteria:

Retired audiologist Lisa Devlin performed similar tests with the amplified phones, allowing us to evaluate range and outgoing audio quality. Additionally, she made calls using each phone and toggled through the various settings intended to aid hearing, including the volume-adjustment options, tone control, slow-speech and noise-reduction functions, and any audio assist or boost buttons.

What used to be a simple purchase for a small and mid-sized business has evolved into many options: on premise VoIP, hybrid VoIP installations, cloud based VoIP and even a traditional phone environment are still applicable in 2015 and the years ahead.

On top of these innovations in the telecommunications industry are how phone systems can be purchased. For consumers, leasing has often been the only choice for smartphones, until Verizon joined T-mobile in ending the practice of 2 year contracts and subsidized devices.

There are a variety of reasons why leasing a phone system can be a better option than buying and vice versa. In addition, buying a used phone system can deliver similar benefits as leasing and financing offers a final option for small operations and entrepreneurs.

Typically the biggest incentive for a company to choose leasing is to avoid all up front costs. Most companies purchase phone equipment during an expansion, new office move or simply to replace outdated technology. All of these situations involve costly overhead in a short amount of time. Leasing eliminates added financial stress.

Just like with a car, leasing allows for brand new equipment with all the bells and whistles. If your business and employees expect and rely on the latest phone technologies and features, leasing can help make it affordable. Leasing also makes phone upgrades, repairs and expansions a cinch, and possibly included every few years in your contract.

Buying a phone system does carry a steep upfront cost, but payment will not continue indefinitely like in a leasing contract. In addition, leasing providers frequently charge monthly per user or phone handset. For a mid-size and enterprise business, paying per employee each month is not an affordable option and would actually increase overhead. 041b061a72
