Nike 2016 BHM Collection

Nike Air Force 1: BHM 2005
In 2005, Nike decided to honor Black History Month and pay homage to the achievements of black athletes across the globe. The result was the release of a white Nike Air Force 1, with red detailing and an image of the Pan-African flag. It became the first in a long line of shoes supporting Black History Month and has grown to now include additional Nike merchandise, not just sneakers. In addition to celebrating black heritage and the accomplishments of black athletes, the funds generated from the BHM collection provide financial support to Nike’s Ever Higher Fund. Their mission is to, “support organizations that leverage the power of sport and mentorship to inspire and enable underserved youth in the community to realize their full potential.”
The limited-edition 2016 BHM Collection is set to drop its first items on January 18, which also happens to be Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The 28 piece collection that spans Nike’s basketball, football, tennis, Nike iD, and Jordan Brand will be released throughout January and February; giving fans something new each week. Prominently displayed in the collection are bold and vibrant Pan-African colors and prints, sure to grab everyone’s attention.
The first round of releases will feature the KD 8, LeBron 13, Kobe 11 Elite, and Kyrie 2 basketball sneakers. The LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving styles will be sold in both adult and youth sizes. On top of the basketball signatures in the collection, Nike will launch BHM merchandise in these categories: Air Force 1, Air Footscape Magista, Roshe One, NikeCourt Flare footwear from Tennis, Streak LT 3 footwear from Running, and the Air Jordan 1 Nouveau and AJ1 High for girls from Jordan Brand. In February we’ll get to see the Magista Obra FG boot and Jordan Spike 40. To round out the BHM collection, hoodies, t-shirts, and shorts will also be manufactured and sold.
