Super Bowl Social Scene: Bay Area Events
With Super Bowl 50 taking over California’s Bay Area this weekend, you’re bound to find something to do everywhere you turn! Among the swarm of fans taking over the City by the Bay, you may even have a chance of spotting or rubbing elbows with A-List celebrities. Parties and concerts hosted by Playboy, Rolling Stone, ESPN, and GQ are among many of the major corporations celebrating this Super Bowl weekend. We’ve compiled a list of events around the area; some free, some for a fee. Take your pick and stay safe as you enjoy the Super Bowl festivities!
FRIDAY
Super Bowl City: 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Embarcadero and Market Street, San Francisco. Presented by Levi’s, Super Bowl City features a fan village centered in Justin Herman Plaza with free concerts; the 50th Mile with food, beverages and shops; the Fan Energy Zone with dance, bike riding, video football and other interactive exhibits; CBS’ mini field and light projections at dusk. Catch performances by Jarrod Spector and One Republic at 7:30 p.m. and stay after for the Macy’s Fireworks Show.
NFL Experience: 3-10 p.m., Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco. This event is full of interactive games and for the kids there’s the NFL Play 60 Zone. Fans will have the chance to receive autographs from past and present NFL players, take photos with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and catch a glimpse of Super Bowl championship rings on display. Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for children 12 and younger.
Super Bowl Gospel Celebration: 7:30 p.m., Paramount Theatre, Oakland. Get lifted with performances from Grammy winner Anthony Hamilton, the NFL Players Choir, Billboard Music Award winner Kem, Season 9 “The Voice” winner Jordan Smith, Kierra Sheard and Canton Jones, Tye Tribette, Charles Jenkins, Jonathan McReynolds and MD-Mike Phillips. Tickets are $25.
Pepsi Friday Night Live: 10 p.m., Pier 70, San Francisco. Performance by Pharrell Williams and DJ Khaled. 21 years or older. Tickets start at $75.
French Montana Super Bowl Kickoff Party: 10 p.m.-4 a.m., Roccapulco, 3140 Mission St., San Francisco. Hosted by Miss Nicky Baby, catch a show from French Montana at this extended Super Bowl party. Strict dress code enforced with tickets starting at $44.
SATURDAY

Santa Clara Super Community Celebration: 10 a.m.-11 p.m., Santa Clara University. Enjoy watching a celebrity flag football game, a pep rally with the 49ers Gold Rush cheerleaders, the Raiderettes cheer, and the Santa Clara Vanguard perform. Fill your tummy at the gourmet food trucks or grab a beer or wine in the garden. There will be NFL player signings, local bands performing, and a youth activity zone. There are a limited number of free day-of tickets; available first-come, first-served.

Catch performances by Oakland soul and R&B singer Goapele and 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys at 7 p.m.
Wounded Warrior Amputee Flag Football Game vs. NFL Alumni: Noon-3 p.m., College of San Mateo. Flag football game featuring the Wounded Warrior Amputee Football Team, Snoop Dogg and 40 NFL Alumni, including former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier and former 49ers Bill Ring, Dan Bunz, Derrick Deese, William Floyd, Bill Romanowski, Dana Stubblefield and Spencer Tillman. $10 tickets but free for children and students.
Super Bowl Celebrity Basketball Game: 1-2:30 p.m., Onetta Harris Community Center, Menlo Park. This celeb basketball game supports the East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy football program and East Palo Alto sports programs for the youth. More than 13 NFL players are in the game, including 49ers Antonine Bethea, Bruce Miller, L.J. McCray and Aaron Lynch and Raiders Rod Streater. Get your autographs after the game. Tickets are $10.
San Francisco Mardi Gras 2016: 10 p.m., Fish & Farm, 424 Clay St., San Francisco. Get a feel for the New Orleans festivities with music, costumes and beads. Don’t miss out on early bird tickets from $11.24.
Chris Brown & 50 Cent Super Bowl Party: 10 p.m. Origin Nightclub, 1538 Fillmore St., San Francisco. Performances by Chris Brown and 50 Cent. Starting at $126.54.
SUNDAY

Tony Bruno’s Super Bowl Tailgate Party: Noon-10:30 p.m., The Glass House, San Jose. Listen in on the radio host’s live pregame broadcast and then take in all the action during a Super Bowl 50 viewing party. $50 to attend.
San Leandro Super Bowl 50 Experience: 1 p.m., BAL Theatre, San Leandro. Watch the game on a 40-foot screen in the historic theatre and enjoy free food, water and soft drinks. You must pre-register for admittance and children must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free for first 500 registered guests!
