Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Black Cat’: No Bad Luck Here

The History

May 7th 1989. Many of us know this date as the day of “The Shot”. Basketball fans remember it all too well. Michael Jordan sank a shot from the foul line right at the buzzer to send the Chicago Bulls past the Cleveland Cavaliers in a deciding Game 5 of the Divisional Round in the 1988-89 NBA Playoffs. Whether you were fortunate enough to be alive as it happened or you’ve watched countless clips of those famous final seconds, it was the epitome of clutch performances and elite basketball. The sneakers he was wearing? The Air Jordan 4. It was the first Jordan sneaker to be released in the global market. Beyond that, the sneaker made an appearance in Do the Right Thing, a film by the great Spike Lee. It made its mark on pop culture, paving the way for those that followed.

The Style

The Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Black Cat’ has a dark soul with an even darker colorway. With so many textures and layers that come with the Air Jordan 4 Retro, the all black colorway creates a sense of smoothness with a sneaker that has so much edge. The mesh side patch gives hints at the breathability of the sneaker despite its firm look. With a visible air pocket, the Jordan team clearly made performance a top priority when designing this sneaker.

This also is not the first time that this colorway has been released. Initially, it was released in 2006 and because of its success and demand, Jordan gave the green light for a re-release. However, there has been lots of movement on the release date. The Air Jordan 4 Retro was supposed to be released late February 2020 according to some reports late last year. But that quickly changed to  January 25, 2020. As of now, however, the most up to date reports are pointing to January 22, 2020.

The Retailers

Many of the big retailers will be carrying the Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Black Cat’, such as Shiekh. However, there does seem to be a fair bit of excitement and anticipation for the sneaker so many of these retailers might be sold out fairly quick. One feature that can make buying this sneaker a bit easier are the Affirm payment plans that are being incorporated by many retailers. This is going to be a huge difference maker for many of those looking to buy this sneaker since the retail price is going to be $190.

The Reason

With an all black colorway, one can never go wrong. It is one of the most versatile colorways out there. It is harder to find an outfit that does not link up with the sneaker than it is to find one that does. The Air Jordan 4 Retro is a classic Jordan in the rawest sense because of the character it displays. The only issue that people ever seem to have about the Air Jordan 4 Retro is that it comes off as too bulky. But, since the ‘Black Cat’ sports an all black colorway, it slims out the frame of the sneaker adding to its attractiveness.

The Rundown

With all the buzz surrounding this sneaker, you might not want to wait around to buy it. It’s a classic style with a great colorway, why even think about it and risk missing out on it? The Air Jordan 4 ‘Black Cat’ is one of the best releases of the year so far (even if we’re only a few weeks into the new year). However, it seems like a 2020 top 10 Jordan release to me. All the black cats in the world couldn’t mess up this hot release!
