NFL Conference Championship Games
After a long and eventful season, only 4 teams remain in the hunt to win the coveted Lombardi Trophy. We have the AFC No. 2 seed, Kansas City Chiefs, coming in with a regular season record of 12-4. The NFC No. 1 seed, San Francisco 49ers, are coming in with a 13-3 regular season record. Also in the hunt are the NFC No. 2 seed, Green Bay Packers, with a regular season record of 13-3. Lastly, the AFC No. 6 seed, Tennessee Titans, come in with a record of 9-7 in the regular season. With these four teams in the NFL Conference Championship round, these games are sure to be entertaining.
The Kansas City Chiefs
They are favorites to win the Super Bowl in Miami and deservedly so. They overcame a huge deficit against the Texans in their Divisional game after being down by 24-0 in the 2nd quarter. With a final score of 51-31, they showed that they can overcome adversity and put up tons of points. Patrick Mahomes is looking like he is finding his groove and they just seem like they have the confidence to win it all. Arguably, they could have been the best team in the league if it wasn’t for Patrick Mahomes getting injured earlier in the season. They are currently sitting on -350 moneyline odds to beat the Titans and they have -7.5 points on the spread. On Fan Duel, they are sitting on +130 odds to win the Super Bowl. They should get past the Titans easily but there have been crazier things to happen in recent weeks.
The San Francisco 49ers
The strongest regular season performers left in the hunt were the San Francisco 49ers without a doubt. They finished tied for the best record in the NFC and were early season favorites to win it all. However, after winning their first 8 games of the season, they finished 5-3 with overall lackluster performances. Still, they are a well rounded team and are currently sitting as second favorites to win the Super Bowl. Their odds are sitting at +155 on Fan Duel to win the Super Bowl. They are also heavy favorites to beat the Green Bay Packers in their NFC Championship game at home on Sunday, with moneyline odds at -320 and 7 points favorite on the spread. The 49ers have some stiff competition against the Packers but at the end of the day, they should be able to take care of business and make it to Miami.
The Green Bay Packers
Will Aaron Rodgers be the great quarterback he was a few years ago? That is going to be the deciding factor for the game against the 49ers. This year has arguably been the worst season for Rodgers in the past 4 years but it has been the Green Bay Packers most successful season in that time span. They have definitely been the ugliest 13-3 team in recent times. Not much had to happen in many games for them to have ended up 8-8 or worse. The savior for the Packers all season has been star running back Aaron Jones. He has been able to take off just enough pressure on Rodgers to allow him to scrape in wins for the Packers. But this can only go so far. Going against a complete team, like the 49ers, they are going to have to play their best game of the season to make it close.
The only reason that they were able to scrape by a 28-23 win against the Seahawks in the Divisional game, was because of a stellar performance by the defense. All this team needs is for Aaron Rodgers to play like he was last year and they will have a decent shot to play in Miami. However, the odds are against him. Fan Duel is giving them an outside shot of +600 to win the Super Bowl. Even for their game against the 49ers, they are sitting at +260 for the moneyline and are 7 point underdogs against the spread.
The Tennessee Titans
The most interesting team left without a doubt. They have become the Cinderella story of the NFL and rightfully so. By beating the Patriots in the Wild Card game and then taking down the Ravens in the Divisional game, they have established themselves as a team with a dream. They will have the tough task of going into Kansas City and try to stop Mahomes and the Chiefs. No one is really giving them a chance but they’re used to that. Going up against the Ravens, every one expected a one sided game but the Titans flipped the script by beating them 28-12.
The one thing that takes away from their huge upset win against the Ravens is that the Ravens never really looked like themselves. Lamar Jackson performed well on paper by throwing for 365 yards and running for over 100 yards, but he wasn’t necessarily the problem. It was their lack of execution that led to their demise. They uncharacteristically could not convert on 4th down on multiple attempts, and they turned the ball over a few times. To me, the Titans really don’t stand a chance against the Chiefs. I blame the Ravens loss on being rusty from the week off. I would love to be wrong though. Fan Duel currently has them at +700 to win the Super Bowl and +280 to beat the Chiefs.
I think that the Chiefs are the easiest bet to win and cover the spread. The NFC Championship game is more of a coin flip for me. I am a Packers fan so my heart wants me to go with the Packers but if I had to be honest, it should be an easy win for the 49ers and they should definitely cover the spread. If Rodgers finds his groove though, expect a close game and last minute heroics from the Discount Double Check man. One prediction that you can definitely count on is that the NFL Conference Championship games are going to be entertaining.
